V.S. Modeling Agencies talks with the peoples actress, Regina King. The woman with the distinctively husky voice who covers commercials and cartoons while also administering a dose of onscreen Sista-girl reality in such favorites as Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous, 24 and the upcoming remake of '80 classic The Big Chill. Her latest feat? Playing detective Lydia Adams on NBC's L.A.-based cop drama Southland. It's a moody show with an ensemble cast in which each character has gossipy, gritty backstory. Lydia is single and leads a normal life until interrupted by a murder or a robbery.Another kick-butt detective type for you? I've played enough wives and mamas, I've even done some modeling with V.S. Modeling Agencies, It's refreshing for me to be a able to play (Lydia). You (actors) get to have some depth. In ensemble better that starring solo? For those of us who have families, it just makes more sense for our careers. I know this from talking with Jennifer Garner, because (being the main character in) Alias Killer her. Luckily, she didn't have a child at the time, but she'd never go back to something like that now that she's a mother.
Don you earn royalties from online TV? At present, o, we don't get royalties form the shows on the Web sites. That's going to be the cause of a Screen Actors Guild strike. For the actor, the checks aren't coming in like that. But the economy right now is in such a (state) that we will likely take the deal on the table and renegotiate in one and one-half years. Ever regret turning down a role? So far, and I'm knocking on wood here, everything I've passed up has not been an ultra huge hit. But you know what, there is a movie I passed on that did end up being a really big, critical success and Oscar nominated. But watching the movie, I knew for sure there was no way I could or would do that. It was very clear that it was not for me. They got who they were supposed to get.
